Manchester United have been pursuing Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba over recent weeks as their priority midfield signing.

The Cameroon international has shone in the Premier League, fitting INEOS’ strategy of wanting proven talents to limit the risk attached to new signings.

In past years, the likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Antony and Jadon Sancho have all joined The Red Devils, failing to live up to their price tags.

By targeting proven Premier League stars, like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, in theory, the risk is significantly reduced of under performing.

However, the price tag given to Carlos Baleba from Brighton would be United’s record fee, coming in at £115 million.

Over recent days, United have reportedly been in contact with Brighton over a move for the midfielder.

Now, David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that not only is Baleba keen to join United, but that he wants to push for the move even if it means in coming years.

This comes as United are reportedly accepting that a move for their key target won’t happen this year due to the financial demands of The Seagulls.

However, it doesn’t close the door on a move for good, with youth and potential still on the side of the talented midfielder.
