Manchester United are now looking to Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba in a bid to reinforce their midfield ahead of next season’s Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils lost Christian Eriksen at the end of last season with his contract expiring, with his replacement yet to be found, and with veteran midfielder Casemiro entering the last year of his contract, a new signing is vital this summer.

Whilst Ruben Amorim has Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Toby Collyer and Sekou Kone at his disposal, last season saw Casemiro and Eriksen be used to cover the extensive injury woes experienced throughout the squad.

As such, their replacement is a key priority for United’s recruitment team, with Carlos Baleba at the head of the shortlist.

The Cameroon international has not only drawn the attention of United, but also Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal.

However, it was recently revealed that Baleba is keen on a move to Old Trafford, mush to the dismay of Brighton.

The Seagulls are keen to retain their midfield star and as such AfricaFoot have reported that they are refusing to entertain bids of less than £87 million (€100 million) this summer.

It’s also understood that whilst Baleba is keen to join United, he’s not willing to engage in any power struggles with his current club, refusing to act in any way to force the move.

As such, United may well have to commit to a hefty transfer fee if they want to secure their key midfield target.
