Manchester United’s summer rebuild is expected to cover multiple positions, and goalkeeper is quickly becoming a top priority.

With Altay Bayindir attracting interest from abroad and veteran Tom Heaton out of contract in June, Ruben Amorim’s options between the sticks are thinning.

While Andre Onana is locked in as first-choice for now, United are looking to bring in a new number one or a backup to the Cameroonian.

The club’s recruitment strategy is shifting toward value and long-term upside, and it’s clear that backup roles will no longer be filled by short-term stopgaps.

Amorim is believed to favour a goalkeeper who can grow into the role or step in seamlessly if needed, particularly with United expected to compete across four competitions next season.

Now, a low-cost target has emerged from within the Premier League system — and United are seriously considering a move.

Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth is among the names being explored by Manchester United as part of their reshuffle, talkSPORT reports.

The 23-year-old, who impressed during a loan spell at Hull City earlier this season, is viewed as a viable option to strengthen United’s goalkeeping depth.

Brighton reportedly value Carl Rushworth at just over £5 million — a figure United consider reasonable given his age, experience, and homegrown status.

With game time limited at Brighton due to Bart Verbruggen’s strong form, Rushworth is believed to be pushing for a permanent move this summer.

United are not alone in their interest.

West Ham have also been monitoring the England youth international, and there is a growing expectation that Rushworth will leave the south coast to seek regular Premier League football.

He is said to be confident in his ability to compete at the highest level, and the chance to join a club like United — even as a No.2 — could be a huge step forward in his career.

Should a move materialise, Carl Rushworth would likely compete with a potential second signing or academy talent for the backup role.

With both Bayindir and Heaton likely to depart, United’s goalkeeping department could look very different by August.
