The countdown to Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States has begun, and anticipation is building as Ruben Amorim prepares to shape his squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

The club has already made a strong statement of intent this summer with the addition of Matheus Cunha, and fans are hopeful that more big-name signings will follow.

Erik ten Hag may have left the managerial seat, but the club’s ambition to return to the summit of English football has remained unchanged under Amorim.

While supporters continue to debate potential incomings, the saga that has dominated Manchester United’s summer transfer window may finally be nearing a conclusion.

After spending over 45 days negotiating with Brentford, Manchester United have made real progress in their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.

The Brentford winger has been at the top of United’s wish list ever since Cunha’s swift capture on 1 June, and despite two rejected bids—the latest being worth around £63 million—the club remains confident of securing the deal.

There’s now belief within Old Trafford that Bryan Mbeumo could be included in the squad for the club’s upcoming pre-season tour in the US.

Talks between the two clubs had previously stalled due to a significant gap in valuation, but developments at Brentford suggest a major breakthrough could be imminent.

The Bees have reportedly lodged a £35 million bid for Omari Hutchinson of Ipswich Town—widely seen as a direct replacement for Mbeumo.

According to the Daily Mail’s Tom Collomosse via X, Brentford’s bid could trigger Hutchinson’s release clause, although The Athletic had earlier reported that the clause expired on 15 July.

The timing of the offer—placed early on the 16th—raises questions, but sources close to the deal believe it could still activate the clause.

Brentford’s bid for Hutchinson, which would break their club record by £7 million, only adds weight to the theory that Mbeumo’s departure is imminent.

Mbeumo himself has long been dreaming of a move to Old Trafford, and while frustration over the pace of negotiations is growing, this latest development signals light at the end of the tunnel.

The feeling now is that if Brentford complete Hutchinson’s signing, Mbeumo’s switch to Manchester United will quickly follow.

One major domino has fallen—now it’s over to Ineos to finish what they started.
