Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign forward Bryan Mbeumo.

United have been working with Brentford for around a month now, trying to secure their priority signing, with Mbeumo equally wanting the move to Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international has made it clear that he wants to join United and be a part of Ruben Amorim’s project to restore the club to their former place at the top of world football.

However, Brentford have been holding firm on their valuation of £65 million for some time, believing that United’s pursuit of the attacker was comparable to their signing of Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million.

However, United’s bid of £55 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons to match the £62.5 million was rejected, with Brentford upping their valuation to £70 million.

Whilst this new valuation was a partial factor over the deal stalling, another was the appointment of Keith Andrews as Thomas Frank’s successor, with the new manager wanting to keep his top players, including Bryan Mbeumo.

However, after a long wait, the 25-year-old is finally on his way to Old Trafford.

After a month of negotiations and contact, The Athletic has reported that a deal worth up to £71 million has finally been struck.

It’s understood that the accepted offer comprises an initial £65 million, plus a maximum of £6 million in add-ons.

The report also explains that the payment terms allow for United to pay the fee over four instalments, spreading out the immediate cost.

This marks United’s second major signing this summer after Cunha, with Diego Leon’s arrival also having a positive impact on the club, set to stay with the squad rather than heading out on loan as was initially expected.
