Jadon Sancho left Manchester United this summer on a loan basis, in one of many players to leave during a summer of change.
The Englishman, formerly of Manchester City, plays on the left and right wing and has represented England on the international break.
But, in his four years so far at United, spanning 2023 to 2025, the Englishman has only made 83 appearances and has only scored 12 goals.
Alongside his time at Old Trafford, the winger has spent spells away from United to try and regain his confidence including at Chelsea.
But, a spell at Borussia Dortmund last year – where he used to be a permanent player – saw him score three goals in 21 appearances.
Spending time at his old club recreated links between the two parties over a potential permanent move.
Furthermore, following Dortmund’s Sebastian Kehl’s stating that the club “have various targets,” the links between the two parties intensified.
However, this was a link that faded out over the duration of the transfer window.
Now, with the 25-year-old recently officially joining Aston Villa on a loan basis, Kehl has spoke out about the links between Sancho and Dortmund.
In an interview with BILD, the Sporting Director stated that the Bundesliga outfit had “dealt with the issue internally at a certain time” but Dortmund had “exhausted our economic possibilities for this transfer period” making the possibility of signing Jadon Sancho unlikely.
The revealing of this news displays Dortmund’s focus on Sancho and shows that he was in a potential transfer framework at the club.
However, Kehl’s comment about having “no state, no sheikh” and “no billionaire” shows the monetary constraints of Dortmund’s business.
But, it will be interesting to see if the German club pursue a move for the Englishman in the coming years.
