Manchester United continue to pursue attacking reinforcements as the summer window heats up.
Ruben Amorim’s pre-season rebuild has shown glimpses of promise, but there remains a sharp focus on finding the final piece for United’s frontline.
The Red Devils have made strides in reshaping their attack, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha already in the mix, yet a true No. 9 remains a missing puzzle piece.
Newcastle’s push for Champions League football again this season has also seen them dip into the striker market, setting up a major transfer face-off.
As the new campaign edges closer, both clubs may soon have an answer.
Benjamin Sesko has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with both Manchester United and Newcastle United, as per Philipp Hinze via X.
According to Hinze, all fundamental terms — including salary, role and contract length — have been finalised with both clubs.
What remains now is a decisive few hours as RB Leipzig weigh up their two offers.
Newcastle have placed a bid of €90 million, while Manchester United’s formal offer is slightly lower at €85 million.
Despite the financial gap, Benjamin Sesko is said to be genuinely torn, having strong admiration for both projects and the roles laid out for him by Eddie Howe and Ruben Amorim.
From United’s perspective, Sesko’s arrival could cast doubts over Rasmus Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford, especially following reports that the Danish striker has refused to be used as a bargaining chip in previous negotiations.
Sources close to the player believe that the decision could be made as early as the weekend, with RB Leipzig pushing for a resolution to avoid further disruption to their pre-season.
The Slovenian striker, just 22 years old, is seen as one of Europe’s most promising forwards, and Amorim has identified him as a focal point in his system.
If United can convince Leipzig to accept their slightly lower offer, it may be enough to win the race — but only if Sesko himself says yes.
This one could go right down to the wire.
