Manchester United’s striker search this summer has been far from straightforward.

The club’s high-profile pursuit of Liam Delap ended in disappointment.

The Manchester City academy graduate opted to join Chelsea instead, with the lure of Champions League football playing a part.

Another major blow came in the form of Viktor Gyokeres – widely viewed as a perfect fit due to his relationship with Ruben Amorim.

He instead chose Arsenal over a Premier League reunion with his former manager.

These setbacks have left United still scrambling for a marquee striker.

Especially with uncertainty continuing to surround Rasmus Hojlund’s future.

While other names have been explored, one player who has remained firmly on the club’s radar is Benjamin Sesko.

And now, there’s fresh optimism from Old Trafford, with Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany reporting on X that Sesko has been “impressed” by Manchester United’s efforts.

United have presented the 22-year-old with a detailed proposal.

Including financial terms and a breakdown of the sporting project under Amorim.

Despite the lack of European football next season, Sesko is open to the move and values the clarity of United’s vision.

However, the race is far from over.

As Plettenberg also states, Newcastle United are also pushing hard, with an offer ready to be submitted as soon as the opportunity arises.

RB Leipzig are standing firm in negotiations, demanding at least €80 million for the Slovenian forward.

Sesko’s response gives United a genuine boost, but the pressure is now on the Red Devils to act quickly before the Magpies make their move.

United fans will be hoping to see a polished striker lead the line next season.

Another season with Hojlund as the main striker could well backfire.

United will of course, be looking to make up for their abysmal 2024/25 campaign where the Red Devils scored a mere 44 league goals.
