Manchester United’s summer business is starting to take shape with major moves already made for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both of whom are set to join the club in a bold attacking reshuffle.

With Ruben Amorim intent on implementing a high-octane system, the need for a physically dominant striker who can stretch defences and dominate the box remains high on the club’s list of priorities.

While Rasmus Hojlund remains a part of Amorim’s plans, the Portuguese boss is keen to add depth and competition to the No. 9 role — especially as Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho continue to be linked with big-money exits.

The club’s financial resources are not limitless, especially after back-to-back big-money additions, so any further major arrivals will require corresponding outgoings.

But that hasn’t stopped United from stepping up their chase for one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe.

According to Absolut Fussball, Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko after a move to Arsenal fell through.

Absolut Fussball reports that Sesko has a release clause in the region of €70–80 million (£60-70 million) and a salary package approaching €10 million (£8 million) including bonuses, Sesko will not come cheap.

United have long admired the 22-year-old, having tracked him since his teenage years at Domzale, and even made approaches before his switch to Leipzig in 2023.

Now, with Arsenal out of the race, United are hoping to finally bring the powerful Slovenian to Old Trafford — with Director of Recruitment Christopher Vivell playing a key role behind the scenes.

Vivell, who previously worked in senior positions at both Salzburg and Leipzig, knows Benjamin Sesko personally from his time in the Red Bull system and has remained in contact with the player’s representatives.

Sesko’s attributes make him an ideal fit: 1.95m tall, lightning-fast at 35.47 km/h, and boasting 0.6 goals per 90 minutes with a 50% aerial duel win rate.

Sesko has 39 goals and 8 assists in 87 games for Leipzig, and United believe the time is right to act — if they can clear the wage bill and balance the books.
