Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation has remained under the microscope ever since Andre Onana’s error-strewn campaign at Old Trafford.

Fans grew increasingly frustrated with the Cameroonian last season, as costly mistakes damaged Ruben Amorim’s attempts to stabilise the defence.

It’s left many questioning whether United should bring in stronger competition between the posts.

Particularly with Tom Heaton entering the final year of his United career, and Altay Bayindir in need for more gametime.

At one stage, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic was strongly linked with a move to Red Devils, touted as a possible replacement for Onana.

However that saga was quickly put to bed, as he quickly sealed a switch to Serie A champions Napoli to play under Antonio Conte.

That disappointment has only sharpened the focus on other names who could bolster Amorim’s options.

One target who has since remained of firm interest to United’s hierarchy is Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

CentreDevils previously revealed that the Belgian keeper has green-lit a move to Old Trafford, thus increasing the chances of the deal coming to fruition.

And now, according to Simon Stone’s report for BBC, United have now held contact with Royal Antwerp for the 23-year-old.

The shot-stopper, highly rated in his homeland, has been described as “ideal for the Premier League” by Real Madrid keeper and fellow Belgian Thibaut Courtois.

United view him as a potential long-term option, though his arrival would depend on a departure within their current goalkeeping ranks.

It would also depend on City’s plans, with the Cityzens keen on Lammens despite recently signing James Trafford.

Inter Milan, Onana’s former club, are monitoring the goalkeeping market.

But it appears the Cameroonian himself is not expected to depart this summer.

Amorim has made clear he will continue working with the players he considers part of United’s future, though he also admitted “anything can happen” before the window closes.

For now, Lammens represents the latest twist in a busy final stretch of the market as United weigh up whether to act on their growing goalkeeping concerns.
