The struggles Manchester United have faced in attack this season, have been a major concern.

The team has lacked a clinical and creative edge in front of goal, failing to create and convert chances at the level expected.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not delivered consistently, combining for just a handful of goals in the Premier League.

Hojlund is still adapting to the demands of English football.

Zirkzee is beginning to find his rhythm.

Manager Ruben Amorim knows improvements are needed if United are to turn their season around.

Adding fresh quality to the squad is vital.

However, the players brought in must fit the system and offer immediate impact.

The transfer market is now the club’s focus.

One player in particular has been closely watched by United, although face tricky competition.

United are reportedly laying the groundwork for a major summer transfer, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

The club is said to be “seriously interested” in Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.

The 20-year-old Englishman has shone this season, continuing Dortmund’s tradition of nurturing English talent like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.

Gittens joined Dortmund in 2020 after stints at Reading, Chelsea, and Manchester City academies.

Playing primarily as a left winger, the right-footer has delivered 11 goals and five assists in 25 matches across all competitions this season.

Four of his goals have come in the Champions League.

Therefore, cementing his reputation as a rising star.

However, Dortmund’s domestic struggles may impact his future.

The club currently sits 10th in the Bundesliga, casting doubt on their qualification for next season’s Champions League.

According to Plettenberg, missing out on the competition would make Gittens’ departure “very likely” this summer.

United aren’t the only club monitoring him.

Tottenham, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all linked.

However, Bayern Munich are serious contenders.

Plettenberg reports that Bayern have already held discussions with Gittens’ representatives, viewing him as a priority for their winger search.

The battle for Gittens is shaping up to be one of the transfer sagas of the summer.
