Marcus Rashford is officially starting his journey away from Manchester United for the first time in 20 years as he joins Barcelona.
The England international returned from his loan spell with Aston Villa this summer, however, Ruben Amorim had no intention of re-integrating him into the squad.
This was clear not only from Rashford’s omission from team training during pre-season, but more so from having his iconic number 10 shirt taken from him and handed to new signing Matheus Cunha.
However, his return to Old Trafford opened the door for a dream move to Barcelona, with the LaLiga champions going “all-in” for the 27-year-old after moves for Luis Diaz and Nico Williams didn’t pan out.
It’s understood that the deal in question is an initial season-long loan, with an option to buy for £26 million, however conflicting reports have emerged regarding the full figure.
Now, with the approval of Hansi Flick, Marcus Rashford is set to join the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal in the front-line at Camp Nou as the Spanish side have unveiled their new star.
Taking to their official website, Barcelona have announced: “FC Barcelona and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Marcus Rashford until 30 June 2026. The agreement also establishes an option to buy the English forward.
“The player have signed his contract as a Barça player this afternoon in at a private meeting in the presence of the FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta; the director of the Football Area, and other Board members.”
It’s already been revealed that Rashford will be taking on the number 14 shirt, like former Barcelona and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, with it also reported that his primary role will be to provide rotation for Raphinha.
However, the England international will be surely wanting to take this massive opportunity to try and seal his permanent move at the end of the season.
