Barcelona have been looking to Marcus Rashford throughout the summer as a potential new addition to the squad to reinforce their attack.
However, as the LaLiga champions look to defend their crown next season, Rashford wasn’t their top target going into the summer.
With a clear priority of recruiting to the left-wing, the Spanish giants highlighted Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and Liverpool’s Luis Diaz as their top targets for the summer.

Unfortunately for Barca, Williams has committed his long-term future to the Bilbao-based side, signing a new contract with Athletic Club until 2035.
Elsewhere in England, Liverpool have rejected Bayern Munich’s bid for Diaz of £58.6 million, setting a price tag of over £85 million for their star winger.
As such, Barcelona have turned to Marcus Rashford as a cheaper and available option, with the England international having no place in the United squad going forward.

It’s understood that Rashford is available for around £40 million, matching the fee Aston Villa had the option to by the 27-year-old for at the end of his loan.
However, should a move for Rashford not work out, Barca have identified yet another option.
CaughtOffside has reported that Barca are looking to AC Milan’s Rafael Leao as a back-up should a move for Rashford fall through.

The 26-year-old had a great season last year, grabbing 12 goals and 13 assists in 50 games, averaging at a goal contribution for every two games.
In the Champions League group stage, Leao was a key part of Milan’s 3-1 win over Barca’s fierce rivals, Real Madrid, as he registered an assist to Tijjani Reijnders.
Having shown he can keep up against Barcelona’s main opposition will have helped his cause with a potential LaLiga move, however it’s understood that the Spanish side are still focussed on getting Rashford ahead of next season.
