Manchester United have unveiled their new signing, Senne Lammens, as the Belgian shot-stopper has moved from Royal Antwerp to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old has become United’s number 31 after the number has been vacant for two years, now looking to fight with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir for the first-choice goalkeeper role under Ruben Amorim.
However, Lammens nearly ended elsewhere as the keeper at Villa Park, being lined up as Emiliano Martinez’s replacement had United gone for the World Cup winner instead.
Now, The Daily Mail has reported that Aston Villa actually submitted a bid to Antwerp, surpassing United’s £21.7 million bid made up of a £18.2 million transfer fee and £3.5 million in add-ons.
It’s understood that the bid was accepted by the Belgian side, however Senne Lammens only had eyes for Manchester United, desperate to join Ruben Amorim’s side.
Speaking for the first time as a Red Devil, Lammens commented: “‘In my team in Antwerp, there were some players who were also in England and, when I talked to them about Manchester United, you could directly see their face change. The club alone, the aura of the club, it’s massive, and being here today, seeing it, it’s a different level.
