Manchester United are looking close to miss out on one of their long-term midfield targets as Aston Villa are close to finalising a deal.

Under the new INEOS leadership, United’s recruitment team are prioritising the signing of impressive young talents to nurture into the superstars of tomorrow.

Signings like Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi have all been key examples of the new recruitment strategy, with the club continuing to look to the summer for further reinforcement.

Whilst United are looking to the Sunderland duo of Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg, they’re looking likely to miss out on Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Halseth Nypan.

United have been tracking the Rosenborg midfielder since before last summer. However, they were unable to sign the then-17-year-old due to Brexit laws.

With Nypan having had his 18th Birthday in December, the youngster was fair game in the winter transfer market, with several top clubs joining United in trying to sign him.

Local rivals Manchester City even flew him to the city to meet with the club at the Etihad in hopes of luring him to the club, however nothing materialised.

Now, Villa are confident in their ability to sign the Norwegian, with The Villains still in contention for European football next season.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Midlands club are in talks with Nypan and his representatives over a contract were he to move, with personal terms nearly being agreed.

It’s understood that Villa are now looking to begin talks with Rosenborg around a transfer fee in one of the final steps of sealing the talent youngster’s move to Villa Park.

At one point Sverre Halseth Nypan was looking likely to be Ruben Amorim’s first signing at Old Trafford, however now it looks like the pair will be meeting as opponents instead of allies.
