Manchester United are looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez at the top of the shortlist.
Going into the summer, the club were looking to recruit another keeper, with Andre Onana having a problematic two year spell at Old Trafford, which has seen The Red Devils record their worst two seasons of the Premier League era.
However, Onana’s recent injury has only sped up the search.
In his first week back to pre-season training, the Cameroon international has sustained a hamstring injury, ruling him out for between six to eight weeks.

Whilst Onana has responded well to early treatment, shortening his potential return timeframe to four weeks, he’s still due to miss the Premier League Summer Series in the USA, with Ruben Amorim calling on Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek to cover.
Now, looking away from his options at the club, Amorim and the Red Devils have opened up talks once more for Emiliano Martinez, with a real intent in signing the World Cup Winner.
It’s also understood that Martinez is keen to move to Old Trafford, seeing the opportunity as a shot at redemption having failed to establish himself at his last “Big Six” club, Arsenal.

However, La Nacion has reported that the valuation gap between Villa and United needs some heavy negotiation.
The Villains are reportedly open to selling their star keeper for around £40 million, however United are only looking to pay £33 million, hoping to lower Villa’s demands.
It’s unknown at this time how much Aston Villa are willing to compromise on their demands, however there is one other issue blocking Martinez’s arrival.
This lies with United needing to offload Andre Onana to create space in the squad, in the wage budget and to generate funds to support the sale.
