Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The 27-year-old has joined the club on a long-term contract.
Gyokeres joins the Gunners following an impressive spell with Sporting that saw the forward score 97 goals in 102 appearances (an average of 0.95 goals per game).
Manchester United had been interested in the forward previously.
However, Gyokeres chose the Gunners over United and therefore decided against a move to Old Trafford.
Over the last couple of weeks, Sporting CP and Arsenal have been at a deadlock over the deal.
However, Arsenal agreed to the terms that Sporting CP meaning the deal could go ahead.
Now, with Gyokeres signed, all eyes will turn towards his first Arsenal game.
Speaking about the deal, Sporting Director Andrea Berta stated: “We are so pleased with the excellent deal we have completed to bring Viktor Gyökeres to the club.
Viktor is an exceptional talent and has consistently demonstrated he has the qualities and winning mentality required of a top-level centre-forward. His physicality, intelligence and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision.”

The Swedish international will wear the number 14 shirt whilst at the Emirates Stadium – an iconic number worn by the likes of Thierry Henry and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Viktor Gyokeres will now join Arsenal’s squad on their pre-season tour in Asia as the North London side prepare for their opening Premier League fixture at Old Trafford against Manchester United on the 9th of August.
