Manchester United have already suffered a massive blow in the pursuit of two incredible wonderkids they’ve been targeting for a significant time.
Firstly came with their pursuit of Rosenborg’s Sverre Halseth Nypan who for a long time looked set to be Ruben Amorim’s first United signing this winter.
However, the January transfer window came and went, with Nypan staying put despite a trip to the Etihad with Manchester City.
It looks like the attacking midfielder will be headed to Villa Park in the summer as he’s made Aston Villa his preferred destination for a move at the end of the season.
Now, The Red Devils look to have missed out on another one of their long-term targets.
River Plate’s Franco Mastantuono is a youngster a lot of teams are getting excited about.
Chelsea and PSG are just two of Europe’s elite who entered the race for Mastantuono ahead of the summer, with United reportedly leading the race until recently.
Not only a key player for River Plate, but Mastantuono is already making a name for himself on the international stage with Argentina’s Under-20s side.
United reportedly submitted a bid with the Argentinian club holding firm on his £38 million release clause.
However, River Plate’s general secretary Stefano Di Carlo rejected this, commenting that “it is a certainty that Mastantuono stays all this year.”
Now, Argentinian journalist German Garcia Grova has reported that a big factor in Mastantuono’s rejection of Manchester United and other clubs comes from his desire to move to Real Madrid.
The 17-year-old is reportedly not in a rush to leave River Plate, happy to wait for Los Blancos to come knocking.
Mastantuono’s agent communicated this to all his prospective suitors, showing the youngster’s determination to move only to the Spanish capital.
As such, it looks highly unlikely that United will land their target any time soon, however, it’s not entirely out of the question, with Leny Yoro preferring a move to Madrid before arriving at Old Trafford.
