Manchester United’s work behind the scenes to rebuild the future of the club continues to gather pace, with another highly-rated prospect now at the top of their wishlist.
Since INEOS’ arrival, the club have placed a huge emphasis on bringing in young talents.
Fans over the years have been used to seeing big names come in on huge fees.
However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is bold on lowering the wage bill, whilst not acting rash in the transfer market.
Red Devils in race to sign Franco Mastantuono
According to Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo on X, United are the club showing the greatest interest in River Plate’s rising star Franco Mastantuono ahead of a possible summer transfer.
Merlo reports that the Red Devils have not only scouted him live but are keeping constant tabs on his development.
With United fully aware that his €45m release clause is the only route to seal a deal.
The 16-year-old has already made waves at senior level, registering 53 appearances across two seasons for River Plate.
He has scored six goals and provided five assists while playing both as an attacking midfielder and on the right wing.
That versatility is believed to be a major reason behind Ruben Amorim’s push to bring him to Old Trafford.
United of course preparing to reshape their squad with a long-term focus in mind.

The teenager’s name now joins an exciting list of future targets.
United are also monitoring the likes of Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham as part of their next-generation strategy.
Should United manage to finalise a move for Mastantuono, it would be yet another statement signing in line with the recent recruitment drive.
One that has seen talents like Yoro, Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, and Chido Obi identified for the club’s future.
All signs suggest that United’s long-term rebuild is beginning to take shape, as the club looks to lay down the foundations for a return to its winning ways.
