Manchester United’s Carabao Cup humiliation at the hands of Grimsby Town continues to hang over the club like a dark cloud, with fans questioning how far standards have slipped at Old Trafford.

Manager Ruben Amorim is under immense pressure to turn things around after a disastrous start to the season, with United’s lack of goals, defensive fragility and failure to impose themselves in matches all raising alarm bells.

The international break may provide time to regroup, but it has also left supporters wondering what the future holds for several high-profile players who have fallen out of favour under Amorim.

Transfer speculation remains rife as United edge towards deadline day, and one star appears to have taken matters into his own hands to accelerate his departure.

That player is Antony, who is now so desperate to leave Manchester United that he has quit his luxury mansion and checked into a four-star airport hotel while waiting for his move away, as per The Sun.

The Brazilian winger has been told by Amorim he has no future at the club, despite impressing on loan at Real Betis last season where he notched nine goals and five assists.

It was reported that Manchester United and Real Betis have reached an agreement in principle over a deal to send Antony back to Spain.

Antony, clearly eager for the move to be completed, has already left his home in Hale – a property previously occupied by Paul Pogba – and is now holed up with his family in a hotel less than five minutes from Manchester Airport.

The £200,000-a-week star has his Porsche parked outside while staying in rooms costing £130 a night, and guests have noted he frequently uses the spa facilities.

According to The Sun, “Antony clearly wants to leave Old Trafford and has done everything he can to ensure if and when a call comes from another club, he’s ready to go.

“He could be on a plane in 30 minutes.”

United, who paid £85 million to sign him from Ajax in 2022, have seen little return on their investment with just 12 goals in 96 appearances.

Betis, however, are ready to take him back permanently in 2026 following this season-long loan.

Antony now looks set to become the second casualty of Amorim’s so-called ‘Bomb Squad,’ with Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia also facing uncertain futures before the transfer window closes, and Marcus Rashford leaving to Barcelona on loan.
