Manchester United have had a turbulent start to the season under Ruben Amorim, balancing a squad rich in young talent with the experience of established stars.

The Red Devils’ has shown flashes of brilliance.

Off the pitch, United’s hierarchy, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has been carefully managing wages and transfers to stay compliant with Profit and Sustainability Rules, ensuring the club can compete domestically.

Fans are also keeping an eye on former stars of the club, watching how ex-United players fare in leagues around the world.

These former players remain part of the broader Manchester United narrative, reminding supporters of the club’s global reach and the challenges faced by those trying to reignite their careers elsewhere.

One such player is Anthony Martial, who after leaving Old Trafford in search of a fresh start, has found himself in a challenging position at Greek side AEK Athens.

The French forward, who spent nine years at Manchester United and earned 30 caps for France, initially looked set for a career reboot in Greece, arriving in Athens on September 18, 2024, greeted by 2,000 enthusiastic fans.

With an impressive salary of €2.5 million net and a club eager to integrate him, Anthony Martial seemed poised for a revival.

However, despite flashes of brilliance, including four consecutive goals between November and December 2024, injuries, inconsistent performances, and disciplinary issues — including a red card against Olympiacos — have left AEK increasingly frustrated.

The Greek club is now actively seeking to offload Martial, paying him handsomely while trying to negotiate a departure.

With transfer windows in most leagues closed, AEK has explored options in Mexico, offering Martial to six clubs, with Pumas UNAM emerging as the most serious contender, as per Foot Mercato.

Yet negotiations are complicated by Martial’s reluctance to accept a lower salary and the Mexican club’s inability to meet his current terms.

At 29, Martial now faces a difficult choice: remain in Greece with financial security but an unwanted status, or take a pay cut to pursue a new challenge in Liga MX before the Mexican transfer window closes on September 13.

The coming days will be decisive for the former Manchester United forward, as he weighs career revival against comfort and financial stability.
