Manchester United are working on redeveloping their goalkeeping department after two years of dismal performances from first-choice keeper Andre Onana and his deputy Altay Bayindir.
The Cameroon international joined from Inter Milan two years ago and unfortunately since then has struggled to be a reliable shot-stopper for United.
Whilst he isn’t solely to blame, he has been the first-choice keeper for United’s two worst ever Premier League seasons, seeing them drop out of European qualification though finishing in the top seven, and last season, falling into the bottom half of the table.
Now, United have made moves to fix the problem, signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, however this now leaves the club overstaffed in the goalkeeper department, with Tom Heaton also in the ranks, giving Amorim four senior keepers.
It was always understood that if United were going to sign a keeper, they’d be offloading one of their existing options, which is still possible despite the summer transfer window coming to a close.
Although deadline day has come and gone across most of Europe, the Turkish and Saudi Arabian transfer windows are still open.
Now, Football Insider has reported that Andre Onana could be sold to the Saudi Pro League before their deadline day on 23rd September.
This would seemingly see Lammens step up into the first-choice keeper role that he’s been determined to claim at Old Trafford.
The Belgian goalkeeper has now been officially unveiled as United’s new number 31, with Lammens set for extra training over the international break.
Lammens is due to remain at Carrington for the two week period, being joined by Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Tom Heaton, Tyler Fredricson, Diego Leon, Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee, in a bid to prepare for the Manchester Derby when the league resumes.
