Following the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, Manchester United are now shifting their attention to the striker position.
Manager Ruben Amorim is expected to stick with his preferred 3-4-2-1 system, making the addition of a new number nine a top priority.
Amorim wants a striker who can stretch defences by running the channels, link up play between the lines, and consistently find the back of the net.
Last season, United’s main options, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, managed just seven league goals between them.
A major concern that has highlighted the need for reinforcements up front.
It had previously been reported that United were targeting a Premier League-proven striker, someone ready to make an immediate impact without needing a long bedding-in period.
As a result, names like Ollie Watkins and Nicolas Jackson have been linked, alongside RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who is reportedly available for €70–80 million plus an additional €5–10 million in add-ons.
More recently, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak emerged as a potential option, following reports from The Athletic that the Swedish striker is open to a move this summer.
Isak would tick all the boxes for United.
He’s Premier League-proven, technically gifted, and viewed as one of the best strikers in world football.
His arrival would instantly raise the ceiling of Amorim’s squad.
However, according to Chris Wheeler via X, United have ruled out a move for Isak.
After spending over £120 million on Mbeumo and Cunha, the club are currently unable to finance such a deal.
Alternatives like Jackson and Sesko are also viewed as too expensive at this stage of the window.
United’s stance could still change later in the summer, either if asking prices drop or if they manage to raise significant funds through player sales.
But for now, a move for Alexander Isak has been officially ruled out.
