Manchester United remain determined to sanction key outgoings this summer, with Alejandro Garnacho among the players earmarked to leave.
The club’s heavy investment in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko has heightened the need for sales, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to balance the books and reshape Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Chelsea have emerged as the strongest contender for Garnacho, with a bid from Stamford Bridge reported to be imminent as of yesterday.
Despite having already secured Jamie Gittens earlier this summer, the Blues are pushing for another left-sided option after losing Mykhailo Mudryk (suspension) and Jadon Sancho last season.
Now, Fabrizio Romano on X, reports that Garnacho has turned down an approach from Bayern Munich within the last 48 hours, making it clear that he only wants Chelsea.
Details of the proposal from Bayern remain unknown, but Garnacho’s instant refusal emphasises his strong desire to join Enzo Maresca’s side.
Talks between the two clubs are described as advancing, with negotiations said to be helped by an excellent relationship between United CEO Omar Berrada and the Chelsea hierarchy.
For Garnacho, the intent to choose Chelsea is a statement in itself.
The 21-year-old is determined to prove himself in the Premier League, perhaps silencing the doubts that have followed him at Old Trafford.
And at Chelsea, a more stable and positive environment compared to United could provide the perfect platform for him to reignite his career.
United fans however, will just be happy to see the back of a player who has only disrespected the club in recent months.
