Manchester United have made no secret of their desire to move on Alejandro Garnacho this summer.
Ruben Amorim has been clear that the Argentine does not fit into his tactical plans, with concerns over his professionalism and attitude further convincing the club that a sale is necessary.
United’s hierarchy are determined to avoid the mistakes of previous windows, where players were held onto for too long.
The Red Devils see Garnacho as one of the highest-profile departures to help fund the rebuild, with the need for funds after spending around £200m on their newly formed attack.
Despite interest surfacing from several clubs over recent months, Chelsea have emerged as the only serious contender to sign the 21-year-old.
A bid from Stamford Bridge had appeared imminent as of yesterday, with the Blues ready to act after lining up departures of their own.

However, according to The Guardian’s report, the Chelsea hierarchy are unwilling to pay £50m for Garnacho, showing a clear gap in valuation between both clubs.
Chelsea have already sold several players this year, raising around £200m, however remain unconvinced in paying £50m.
A fee of around £30m-£40m is seen as a more likely fee range.
The Blues’ move has also suffered a blow after Bayern Munich’s stalled pursuit of Christopher Nkunku.
Chelsea are hoping to offload the Frenchman permanently, but Bayern’s rejected loan offer has delayed talks.
Thus, forcing the Blues to put other business – including Garnacho – on hold.
The London club are also weighing up moves for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, but progress on both fronts is contingent on resolving Nkunku’s future.
Until then, United’s plan to cash in on Garnacho faces an unexpected delay, with Amorim eager to see clarity sooner rather than later.
Chelsea remain in the stronger position, considering their financial power – compared to United who remain rather desperate to sell this summer.
