Manchester United have officially concluded the transfer of Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth £40 million, marking the end of a five-year spell at Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old winger, who joined United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020, made a rapid rise through the ranks to become one of the club’s most promising attacking talents.
Alejandro Garnacho contributed to United’s campaigns across a couple of seasons, despite experiencing challenges, including a 24-game goal drought in 2024/25.
His performances in key matches, however, earned him recognition, notably his spectacular bicycle kick against Everton, which won him the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award.
After months of speculation, the transfer has been completed with Chelsea confirming Garnacho has signed a seven-year contract that includes a 10% sell-on clause.
This move comes as part of Manchester United’s ongoing summer overhaul under manager Ruben Amorim, which has already seen departures such as Antony’s potential transfer to Real Betis for £21.5 million.
Fans and pundits have closely followed the developments, particularly given United’s heavy investment in summer signings totalling £214.5 million.

Following the confirmation of the move, Garnacho shared a heartfelt message on Instagram to mark the end of his United chapter. He wrote: “Dear Manchester, after an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close.
“We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this.
“To the coaches, staff, and my teammates, thank you for believing in me.
“Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had.
“I leave proud of what we achieved together and excited for what’s to come.
“Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career.”
Garnacho’s departure represents one of United’s higher-value sales in recent years, following the footsteps of past marquee exits like Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.
While supporters are divided on the decision, many have wished him success at Chelsea as he embarks on this new chapter.
The winger’s legacy at Old Trafford, highlighted by moments of brilliance and rapid development, will remain part of United’s youth success stories, even as the club continues to reshape its squad for the upcoming season.
