One of Manchester United’s former players has chose to embark on a new chapter, as he attempts to restart his career.
The Red Devils have long been known for scouring youth football to identify top talent, and the summer of 2020 saw the club take a forward-thinking approach to youth recruitment.
That year brought in the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Alvaro Fernandez.
But also England youth international Logan Pye – who arrived in a double deal with Joe Hugill from Sunderland.
While Hugill remains on the club’s books, currently at Barnet, Pye’s time at United was hampered by injuries.
He eventually moved on to Burnley in 2023 in search of a fresh start.
The 21-year-old now hopes to make his professional breakthrough away from Premier League academies.
Accrington Stanley have officially confirmed the season-long loan signing of Logan Pye from Burnley, as announced on the club’s website.
Pye, born in Sunderland, featured twice during United’s successful 2022 FA Youth Cup run and made 30 appearances for the club’s youth sides in total.
But injuries limited his chances to progress further.
“I started at Sunderland when I was seven, then moved to Manchester United when I was 16,” Pye told Accrington’s website.
“It didn’t really work out as I planned, so I had to take a little step back, came to Burnley, and that’s when it started going well again.”
The left-back added: “I need to play men’s football and get used to that, so it’s the ideal time to come out on loan.”
Accrington manager John Doolan praised Pye’s qualities, calling him “a proper left-back” after previously scouting him last summer.
Doolan said: “He is a proper left-back, athletic, physical.
“Can defend one-v-one situations, gets forward, and has outstanding qualities.
“That’s the reason he was at Burnley.”
The move is subject to Premier League, EFL, and FA ratification.
