With Ruben Amorim set to stick with his 3-4-2-1 system next season, recruitment will be key in finding players who fit the structure and can thrive under his management.
After securing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both expected to operate in the dual No. 10 roles central to Amorim’s setup, United are still looking to strengthen in other key areas.
One of the most demanding roles in Amorim’s system is wing back.
The position requires players who can contribute both defensively and offensively, with the energy to cover the length of the pitch throughout the game.
Just as important is their ability on the ball.
Wing backs must be secure in possession, able to play out from deep, and possess the athleticism to burst forward and provide a wide outlet in attack.
At present, United lack natural wing backs in the squad.
On the right, Amad Diallo is expected to start, though he is naturally a winger.
Other options like Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are more traditional full backs and may not fully suit the role.
On the left, Patrick Dorgu is likely to begin the season as first choice, but depth remains thin.
With Harry Amass expected to go out on loan, teenage prospect Diego Leon is the only real backup option.
As a result, United have been exploring the market for another left wing back.
One early target was Premier League-proven full back Pervis Estupinan.
However, according to the official AC Milan website, Pervis Estupinan has now signed for the Italian side on a contract running until 2030, officially ruling United out of the race.
He will now look to carry over his Premier League form into Serie A, leaving United to reassess their options.
Finding proper wing back depth remains a priority as the club prepares for a pivotal season under Amorim.
