The race for Marcus Rashford looks to be heating up, with front runners AC Milan seemingly faltering at the final hurdle.

Rashford’s brother and agent is currently in Milan to discuss the United star’s future, however, the talks seem to have hit a barrier.

The striker was raised as an option for AC Milan by former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is now an advisor at San Siro.

With Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic both injured, Zlatan saw the England international as a strong contender to boost Milan’s attack.

However, Rashford’s extremely high wage, a concerning factor for several clubs, looks to have undone the deal with AC Milan.

AC Milan set to reject Marcus Rashford loan deal

The Italian side were looking at a loan deal with an option to buy, however needed United to subsidise Rashford’s wages whilst on loan.

Now, The Times has reported that Milan are set to pull out of the loan deal.

It comes as the Serie A side refuse to pay more than half of Rashford’s salary, with their current highest earner getting paid £150,000 per week.

With Rashford on £325,000 per week, it’s over double their current highest wage which sits with Alvaro Morata.

Whilst this is an initial blow for Manchester United, with Rashford’s departure from the club taking a step backwards, Milan aren’t the only interested party.

Juventus, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are also still interested in the attacker.

However, it remains to be seen if United’s demands are too much for any club.

The Red Devils are expected to be demanding a loan fee for the England international, whilst also expecting the club he is loaned to to pick up the majority of his salary costs.

A decrease in these demands would see a loan deal more likely this January, however in turn it would be less profitable.

However, United have also planned another route for Rashford’s departure.

United have already considered a deal with Napoli, using Rashford in a player-swap offer for in-form striker Victor Osimhen.

With three weeks left of the transfer season, United have plenty of time to finalise a deal for the 27-year-old, however, they’ll want to move quickly to begin making signings of their own.
