Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been looking likely to leave Old Trafford this summer, however the reason why West Ham United have now backed away from their deal has been revealed.
West Ham United were front runners to sign the right-back with Inter Milan also competing for the star.
Wan-Bissaka had agreed to join The Hammers on a five year contract, although his wages were a point of contention.
The Hammers were happy with United’s asking price of £18 million, however Wan-Bissaka’s representatives had other ideas surrounding the fee.
Now, details of Wan-Bissaka’s demands have emerged, causing West Ham to back out of the deal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s parting demands revealed
It was already understood that the right-back’s representatives were negotiating for some of Wan-Bissaka’s £18 million transfer fee to go back to the player as a signing fee to leave the club.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in the final year of his contract and so is eligible to sign for a new club in January for free, ready to move in the summer. In this instance, the club would be able to pay the defender a hefty signing on bonus, whilst still being less than United’s £18 million valuation.
It’s known that Inter are waiting in the wings to do just this when the January transfer window opens if they decide not to make a play for the star this summer.
It’s now emerging that Wan-Bissaka was actually requesting £7 million of the £18 million transfer fee, just under 40% of what United were set to receive.
United have refused to agree to this fee, as have West Ham who are refusing to pay this on top of the transfer fee.
Ultimately, this has now led to The Hammers looking elsewhere with the London-based team now turning to Newcastle star Kieran Trippier.
It’s unknown what Inter’s plan is in the wake of this new development, but for now, Wan-Bissaka is staying at Old Trafford.
