With Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans both set to depart as free agents, a significant gap will emerge in the centre-back department.

Compounding United’s defensive worries, Lisandro Martinez has faced persistent injury issues, much like Luke Shaw and Mason Mount.

If the club were to lose Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, and Ayden Heaven to injuries simultaneously — a scenario that unfolded this season — United could be left dangerously short.

In such a case, only new signing Leny Yoro would remain as a natural centre-back, with Lindelof and Evans no longer available.

This growing concern might explain why Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Inter Milan centre-back.

According to a report from Italian outlet Inter Live, United have entered the race for the promising German defender, Yann Bisseck, submitting a staggering €60 million (£51.3m) offer to secure his services.

The report claims the Red Devils have “set their sights” on the 24-year-old, signalling strong intent to bring Bisseck to Old Trafford.

Yann Bisseck has reportedly attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, but United’s bid appears to place them in a strong position.

Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Everton, and Bournemouth have also shown interest in the Inter defender.

Despite limited consistent playing time at Inter, Bisseck’s performances have impressed when given opportunities.

This season, he has made 34 appearances across competitions and contributed to 18 clean sheets, underlining his defensive potential.

United’s summer transfer plans, however, are heavily dependent on player sales.

With Financial Fair Play regulations looming, the club is actively seeking to offload players such as Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Antony and Jadon Sancho to generate funds.

Successful sales could help finance the €60 million move for Yann Bisseck.

While a €60 million investment in a fourth-choice centre-back might raise eyebrows given United’s financial concerns, their reported bid highlights the seriousness of their summer recruitment strategy.
