Manchester United are set to make a major loss this summer as the club looks to cash in on their unwanted stars to generate funds for Ruben Amorim to bring in new talent to his side.

Under Erik ten Hag, the club spent an insane £600 million on transfers, with the likes of Antony, Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez all being bought for around £50 million or over.

However, the Dutch manager had very little to show for the immense spending, with the club only winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup under his reign, also achieving an 8th place Premier League finish and setting up for a 15th place finish when he was sacked mid-season.

Now, United are rebuilding their squad for Ruben Amorim, backing the manager, with The Daily Mail and Telegraph reporting the club are bracing themselves to make some major losses on some of their offloads.

The Red Devils have five players in particular that they are prioritising sales for, interestingly labelled the “bomb squad”, comprising of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.

It’s abundantly clear that none of the five have a future at Old Trafford; however, Manchester United are now looking to offload them however possible, at a significantly reduced rate from either their peak valuation at United or from how much The Red Devils bought them for.

Firstly we have Rashford, United’s former poster-boy, having come through the United academy but now set to join Barcelona on loan with an option to buy. It’s understood that the buy fee is set at around £26 million to £30 million, with some conflicting reports at this time.

This is a massive drop compared to when his valuation rocketed to over £100 million during his 30-goal season, with the attacker’s overall value staying at around £70 million from 2019 t0 2023 according to Transfermarkt, barring a major crash in 2022.

Then comes fellow academy graduate, Alejandro Garnacho who’s price tag sat at around £70 million in the winter transfer window when Napoli were calling.

However, since his public fallout with Ruben Amorim, United’s position in negotiations has been significantly weakened, with the club now looking to accept bids of around £40 million.

Next is Jadon Sancho who joined Manchester United in 2023 from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million. Since then, Sancho’s failed to establish himself in the side, with a bust-up with Erik ten Hag seeing him out on loan to Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea in back-to-back years.

Now Juventus look set to offer the former England international a lifeline with a £15 million move to Turin with United’s previous buy clause with Chelsea being £25 million. Whilst the fee for Juventus is yet to be agreed, it’s unlikely to go above £25 million and could well even be less than that.

The final attacker in the list is Antony who looks poised to return to LaLiga, either with Real Betis or surprise new front-runners Atletico Madrid. The Brazilian arrived from Ajax for £86 million but has failed to live up to his price tag, now being valued at around £30 million.

Finally we have Tyrell Malacia who, after a loan with PSV Eindhoven last season, is yet to have suitors knocking on his door. However, the left-back has also experienced a drop in value from the £13 million that United paid Feyenoord for him, down to £7 million.

As such, The Red Devils have seen a major loss of potential transfer fees at their peak, or from their purchase cost of a combined £342 million, with their current sales or valuations being a combined £132 million.

This drop of £210 million will no doubt be felt by United at a time when the club are desperate to raise funds, hence their willingness to cut their losses and accept the cut-price deals for the five.
