Manchester United are expected to make significant changes in midfield this summer, with Ineos preparing for a reshuffle and squad overhaul under Ruben Amorim.

Casemiro is widely tipped to leave the club at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen is also expected to depart as part of United’s squad overhaul.

Kobbie Mainoo, who has not signed a new deal yet is also rumoured to leave his boyhood club.

United have already been linked with a range of replacements with Atalanta’s Ederson being one of them.

Despite multiple targets in the mix, one standout name has now caught the attention of Europe’s elite — and United are monitoring the situation closely.

Florian Wirtz has become Bayern Munich’s top transfer priority this summer, with the Bavarians determined to land the Bayer Leverkusen star.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a sensational season under Xabi Alonso, helping Leverkusen win their first-ever Bundesliga title while racking up goals, assists, and plaudits in equal measure.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern are already in negotiations for Florian Wirtz and view him as a generational talent worth between €110m and €150m.

His contract at Leverkusen runs until 2027, but that hasn’t deterred Bayern from making him their number one target — even after being offered other midfielders.

Manchester City are also interested in the German international, with Pep Guardiola’s side known for aggressively pursuing top young talent.

United, meanwhile, are keeping a close eye on developments, as per Jorge Picon via X.

Although they have fewer options than their Premier League rivals when it comes to securing Wirtz, the club is aware that a change of manager and sporting leadership under Ineos may create new opportunities.

With Real Madrid unlikely to make a move for Wirtz this summer despite Alonso’s admiration, United could be one of the few outsiders watching closely as Bayern and City battle it out.

Whether they make a formal approach will depend on how their own midfield departures unfold in the coming weeks.
