Tactical

When Erik ten Hag was appointed, fans were thrilled at the prospect of finally having a tactically astute coach.

His Ajax side had been a force to be reckoned with – playing dominant, beautiful football, scoring freely, and rarely conceding.

The expectation was that he would bring the same tactical side to Manchester United.

While there were glimpses of promise in his first season, United have since regressed.

Off the ball, the team’s structure has been poor, often leaving large gaps across the pitch, particularly in midfield.

The lack of compactness has made them vulnerable to counterattacks and exposed defensively.

On the ball, United’s issues are equally glaring.

Their attempts to play out from the back have been inconsistent, with a disjointed build-up that lacks cohesion.

Too often, players are left without clear passing options, and the team’s fluidity has turned into confusion rather than controlled possession.

What once seemed like a tactically sound appointment now raises questions about whether ten Hag can replicate his Ajax success at Old Trafford.
