Player Development
A key responsibility of any manager is player development, whether it involves nurturing youth prospects, getting the best out of new signings, or improving existing players.
A good coach should be able to elevate the performance of even struggling players.
Unfortunately, Erik ten Hag has fallen short in this area.
Many of his signings have struggled to deliver consistent performances, and there has been little evidence of tactical growth in some of the young talents he has introduced.
While Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have shown flashes of brilliance, their progression seems to have stalled in terms of their tactical development.
Ten Hag has also misprofiled several players, using them in roles that don’t suit their strengths, which has contributed to their underperformance.
Existing squad members, instead of improving under his management, appear to have stagnated, with several now being moved on.
This lack of player development across the board has been a major concern throughout his tenure, undermining the long-term potential of the team.
