Form in London

Ten Hag’s tenure has been characterized by inconsistent away performances, and London matches have particularly exposed this vulnerability.

Since taking charge in the summer of 2022, United has only secured two victories in 15 visits to London – both against Fulham, and both victories coming via last-gasp winners.

This trend reflects a broader pattern of underperformance on the road, where United has accumulated just 27 points from 42 away matches across all competitions.

Poor away form has often hampered the club’s ambitions, leaving them vulnerable in crucial fixtures.

The nature of competition in London adds another layer of difficulty for Manchester United.

Matches against rivals like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham are not only intense but also come with the added pressure of playing in front of hostile home crowds.

This pressure seems to affect the team’s mentality, resulting in performances that are often lackluster and uninspired.

During Ten Hag’s first season, United’s struggles in London began with a harsh 4-0 defeat at Brentford.

This was a precursor to a series of disappointing results, including losses to West Ham and Arsenal, as well as draws against Tottenham, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace.

Last season also had similar problems, as United again stumbled in London, earning just four points from seven matches.

A particularly painful string of performances included a 4-0 drubbing at Crystal Palace and dramatic late collapses against Chelsea and Brentford.
