André Onana – 6.5/10

Brought in to improve the distribution from the back, Onana showed far more glimpses of his ball playing abilities than in the game against Wolves on Monday.

There were some beautifully threaded balls that took the team from defence to attack, with a highlight reel pass being a cross field ball that switched play from right to left and almost created an opening for United.

Aside from that, he made a couple of decent saves, but couldn’t do much about either goal.

Let down by the defensive protection in front of him, Onana will hope that United shore things up further up the field otherwise he may be seeing more games like today.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5/10

Another solid, if unspectacular, game from Aaron Wan-Bissaka – something that seems to be the mantra for his time at United.

Made a crucial intervention when it looked like Maddison was going to play a killer pass to Son, and generally tried to provide an extra attacking outlet on the right hand side.

As in the Wolves game, he was withdrawn not long after the hour mark as Ten Hag looked to Diogo Dalot to help improve the side going forward.

Raphaël Varane – 6/10

Lucky to escape a yellow card for almost dragging a Spurs player to the ground, this was a game of two halves for Varane.

The first half was pretty much a case of showing defensive solidity and providing an extra threat from set pieces.

But the second half, much like for much of the side, was far poorer.

Varane looked flustered with the movement and intensity of Spurs’ second half performance and seemed incapable of using his experience to either help or settle his side.

Lisandro Martínez – 5/10

The season hasn’t started particularly well for Martinez.

Taken off at half time against Wolves, he started off well here in the first half. But like his central defensive partner, seemed to struggle with the pace and movement of the Spurs attackers after the break.

Providing the final touch on Ben Davies’ shot, which looked like it was going wide, with a rash kick at the ball that resulted in an on goal for Martinez seemed to highlight how his general game was going.

United will hope that he’ll improve his performance levels in the coming weeks.

Luke Shaw – 5/10

Bar one sumptuous cross that Bruno Fernandes should have buried, Luke Shaw didn’t produce anywhere near his usual quality both offensively or defensively.

Shaw allowed too much space on his side of the pitch for Spurs first goal, almost inviting Dejan Kulusevski to advance into the box and cross the ball.

Spurs gained a lot of joy on Shaw’s side of the pitch and he was lucky not to score an own goal when a cross deflected off him and onto the post.

A poor day at the office for Shaw.
