Goalkeeper
There’s no doubt Andre Onana will remain Manchester United’s number one under Ruben Amorim.
After a challenging start to his United career, Onana has firmly established himself as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers.
His exceptional ability with the ball at his feet perfectly aligns with Amorim’s demands for a ball-playing keeper.
Beyond his distribution, Onana has delivered when it matters most, making crucial saves to rescue United in key moments.
Defence
In defence, the one certainty when everyone is fit is Lenny Yoro.
Ruben Amorim has spoken highly of Yoro, and his physicality and ability to defend channels at RCB .
Yoro will be crucial for Amorim to fully implement his tactical style.
Currently, Noussair Mazraoui occupies the RCB role, and while Mazroui is vital to United’s setup, his versatility means he is likely to shift to LWB, with Amad Diallo taking on the RWB role.
Although there’s potential for Amad to be tried further forward, his impressive form under Amorim makes him an essential part of the plans at RWB.
The competition for the CCB spot will be fierce between Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire.
For now, de Ligt is likely to start, but Maguire’s qualities make him a strong contender for the role as the season progresses.
At LCB, Amorim’s ideal choice is Luke Shaw. Shaw’s outstanding 1v1 defending, coupled with his physicality to cover spaces behind, makes him a key part of the defensive setup.
This could result in Lisandro Martinez being dropped, as although Martinez is a capable defender, he doesn’t possess the same carrying ability and physicality Shaw offers.
As Shaw regains fitness, Martinez’s place in the starting XI could become more uncertain, though Shaw’s consistent fitness issues mean he will still have a role to play.
