Manchester United vs Wolves Player Ratings

Read our player ratings for United’s opening day win against Wolverhampton Wanderers

André Onana – 6.5/10

Onana’s Old Trafford debut was solid with a sprinkle of late shenanigans.

His passing was at a high level, as we’ve come to expect.

The Cameroonian also made some good saves and commanded his box well.

His score is put down purely for his clash with Wolves’ Sasa Kalajdzic, which should really have been a penalty against United.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5/10

Wan-Bissaka played a very significant role to United’s winning goal, setting up Raphael Varane handsomely in the 76th minute.

He made some good runs throughout the game while also being solid defensively.

His play on the ball was questionable once again though, as he surrendered possession quite a few times throughout the game.

Raphaël Varane – 9/10

The 5 times Champions League winner did what he does best, winning United the game both offensively and defensively.

He was in the right place at the right time to finish off one of the few clear cut chances the team managed to create.

Apart from that, he was excellent at the back, with his exceptional positioning and decision making being crucial in stopping many of Wolves’ transitions.

Lisandro Martínez/Victor Lindelöf – 6/10

The Argentine was slightly below his usual high standards in the first half.

He was overly aggressive on some occasions, getting himself booked and subsequently substituted at half-time.

Lindelöf came in as his replacement and put in a steady performance.

Luke Shaw – 7/10

The English international was as good as usual.

He was aggressive in his defending, perhaps too much at times, and he made a massive block at the end of the game to deny Fabio Silva of a potential equaliser.

He showed quality on the ball too when he was allowed to go forward and overlap on the left, something we definitely need to see more of.
