Manchester United Pre-Season Review – Player Ratings and Standout Performers

United’s pre-season has finally come to a close following the 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

Facundo Pellistri

Attackers

Omari Forson (4/10) and Noam Emeran (6/10)

Two young wingers who will likely not make it at Manchester United, through no real fault of their own really. The position they play in is already extremely stacked with quality.

Forson rather struggled, getting hooked off in the 37th minute against Dortmund.

Emeran impressed by winning the game for United vs Leeds, netting a goal and an assist late on.

Alejandro Garnacho (8/10)

The South American livewires on United’s wings.

Garnacho was particularly electric against RC Lens, providing an outlet for United on the left. His pace was frightening for defenders as usual.

Facundo Pellistri [Standout Performer] (9/10)

Pellistri showed versatility on top of his pace and strong dribbling, playing on both wings in pre-season.

His performance against Bilbao was a standout, capped off by a stunning goal in the dying seconds.

The Uruguayan will hope to have a future at the club but may well be set for a loan this season, with Eredivisie side FC Twente rumoured to be interested.

Antony (8/10)

The Brazilian is going into a crucial second season with United and he has already shown promise of improvement on his first.

It was evident how important he was to Ten Hag’s side when Bruno Fernandes was playing on the right against Real Madrid and the team suffered because of it.

His goal and assist against RC Lens further cemented how integral he is to the team’s success.

Jadon Sancho (6.5/10)

Sancho played as a false 9 for the first time in his United career in this pre season. It was an interesting experiment by Ten Hag, perhaps forced by the lack of options in that position.

The Englishman wasn’t spectacular in any of the games he featured in, apart from one.

His burst to get away from Gabriel in the Arsenal fixture, followed by a beautifully struck goal at the near post certainly gave fans hope of a good season ahead for him.

And he needs it if he is to continue his Manchester United career.

Marcus Rashford (7/10)

United’s chief goalscorer from last season was quieter in pre season.

He didn’t feature in any of the games until Arsenal and struggled against Real Madrid and Borrusia Dortmund.

In the second half against RC Lens we saw the Marcus Rashford of last season, scoring and assisting to lead United to victory.

He will also be looking to improve further on his already brilliant previous campaign
