Goalkeepers
Tom Heaton – 6/10
Overall, it was a steady display from United’s most senior player, keeping clean sheets against both Leeds and Arsenal alongside a solid display in the 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao.
Matej Kovar [Standout Performer] – 7.5/10
The young Czech goalkeeper was one of the breakout players this pre-season, impressing with his strong distribution and command of his area in his two appearances against Leeds United and Lyon.
He boasted a 96% and 92% pass accuracy in the two games respectively.
There’s certainly a bright future ahead of him, be it at United or somewhere else.
André Onana – 8/10
United’s new number 1 was certainly different from what fans have been used to seeing in the past decade.
Long diagonals, sharp passes into midfield, starting position as high as the centre-backs, athletic saves – the Cameroonian gave a sneak peek of what a modern goalkeeper looks like.
His score is lower than it could have been due to his overeagerness for Jude Bellingham’s goal, which could have been prevented had he stayed on his line.
