Number 3
Dimitar Berbatov (2008) – Hit
The Bulgarian striker was known for his elegant style and deft touches, which led to him scoring crucial goals for the Red Devils. One of his memorable moments was a stunning hat-trick against Liverpool in 2010. Berbatov also played a pivotal role in the team’s Premier League title win during the 2010-2011 season.
Marouane Fellaini (2013) – Miss
Fellaini was expected to be a key player in United’s midfield, but he struggled to live up to expectations.
After United spent the window chasing Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, as the successor to recently retired Paul Scholes, and initially not paying a lower release fee for the Belgian, they snapped him Fellaini on deadline day from new manager David Moyes’ previous club Everton.
He was often criticised for his lack of mobility and his tendency to go to the ground easily. Despite often scoring crucial goals throughout his spell at United, he wasn’t the right fit for the side and was jettisoned out of the club when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named new manager.
In April 2014, Fellaini was named as one of the “10 Worst Buys of the Premier League season” by The Daily Telegraph.
