2. Rashford Garnacho Conundrum
While United’s missed chances stem from individual errors that need addressing, some responsibility falls on the coaching setup.
Marcus Rashford remains the only United attacker proven to score consistently at this level, yet he’s often utilized as a utility player to maximize others rather than being the focal point of the attack.
Rashford should be United’s main man up front, with the game plan built around him.
Earlier in the season, Rashford’s position on the left saw him playing very wide to accommodate Diogo Dalot’s being inverted from left back.
Recognizing this, ten Hag recently switched Rashford to the right, where Dalot overlaps high and wide.
However, this shift primarily serves to create an overload on the left wing for Garnacho – a role better suited for Rashford himself.
For United to capitalize on their most reliable finisher, ten Hag needs to reinstate Rashford on the left, supported by Amad Diallo or Garnacho on the opposite side.
This adjustment could open more scoring opportunities for Rashford, ultimately boosting United’s goal threat.
