2. Pressing

Manchester United have struggled to press coherently for some time now.

Their approach often appears disjointed, with players unsure of pressing triggers or whether to adopt a man-marking or zonal system.

This lack of clarity frequently allows opponents to bypass United’s press, exposing their midfield and backline.

There was some hope that interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy could address these issues, especially given his success with an organized off-the-ball setup at PSV.

However, with limited time at the helm, little has changed.

Incoming manager Ruben Amorim has a significant task ahead.

United’s pressing will require a complete overhaul, but Amorim’s track record suggests he could bring much-needed discipline and cohesion.

If he sticks to his principles, United could finally develop a more effective press, improving both their defensive shape and ability to create chances by winning the ball higher up the pitch.
