5 things we learnt from Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea

Wingers Failing To Track Back

One of United’s biggest issues was the overload on the flanks, as Chelsea’s full-backs found space against United’s.

Garnacho and Rashford struggled to track back consistently, leaving United’s full-backs exposed to two-on-one situations.

Manchester United were fortunate not to be punished more severely.

With two games left under Ruud, both wingers must show more defensive commitment to help secure the results United want.

Amorim, known for demanding full effort from his players, will likely set a high standard, and Garnacho and Rashford must prove they can meet it.

Zirkzee Struggles

Joshua Zirkzee came on late to replace Rasmus Hojlund and looked sluggish, struggling to make an impact.

He lacked aggression, seemed off the pace, and didn’t manage to hold up the ball effectively, often playing right into the defenders’ comfort zones.

With Amorim’s arrival and Hojlund likely the preferred choice at striker, Zirkzee will need to step up considerably if he wants to earn more minutes.

Lack of Quality

Overall, the game was marked by a lack of quality on both sides, with neither team able to hold possession consistently.

Whether they canceled each other out or simply struggled with sloppy play.

Both sides will be disappointed with their ball retention and lack of final product in crucial moments.
