1. Lisandro Martinez Left Back

One of the standout tactical changes for this game was Erik ten Hag’s decision to start Lisandro Martinez at left-back.

Martinez has been struggling in recent games, getting exposed by attackers when Diogo Dalot inverts into midfield.

This time, with the team struggling with injuries the manager pushed Martinez to left back, allowing him to tuck into a back three when United were building play from the back.

This shift not only gave United more stability but also allowed Martinez to showcase his impressive passing range from deeper areas of the pitch.

Martinez’s positional change gave United a more solid structure defensively, while also helping Dalot push higher up the pitch on the right.

By playing on the left, Martinez was able to help deal with Bryan Mbeumo while also offering more balance in a back three when United were in possession.

It was a tactical tweak that gave United the foundation they needed to mount their comeback.
