2. Lisandro Martinez Problems

A recurring issue in this match was how often Lisandro Martinez found himself exposed, particularly due to Diogo Dalot’s role inverting into midfield.

While Dalot has been used effectively in this position to contribute to ball progression and midfield control, it left a significant gap on the left side of the defense.

Martinez was frequently forced into 1v1 situations, where his vulnerabilities were highlighted.

He is an excellent ball-playing center-back who thrives in a well-structured defensive line, but when left to defend large spaces and handle tricky wingers or fast transitions, his lack of pace and size became a problem.

Porto capitalized on this tactical imbalance, particularly during their quick counter-attacks.

Martinez was repeatedly dragged out of position, leaving United’s defense disorganized and stretched.

His 1v1 defending, especially in open space, has not been a strong point, and Porto exploited this weakness well.

With Dalot pushing forward and inverting, Martinez needs better support to avoid these situations, but the current system isn’t offering that, leading to a recurring vulnerability that opposing teams are increasingly targeting.
