3. Build up structure
There were plenty of positives to take from the game, including Manchester United’s improved build-up structure.
Last season, one of United’s major issues was the lack of fluidity in their build-up play.
Full-backs often didn’t know when to invert.
Midfielders were unsure when to drop deeper.
And Onana was indecisive over whether to play long or short.
This lack of clear pattern in their build-up made United vulnerable to opposition pressing.
Today, however, the structure was much clearer.
Diogo Dalot consistently inverted into deep midfield areas, allowing Christian Eriksen to shift to the left and create an additional passing option.
This was a much-improved approach from United and looks promising to build on moving forward.
