Danny Higginbotham

Danny Higginbotham came through the famed Manchester United academy but never fully established himself in the first team.

After an inconsistent loan spell in Belgium and making only a handful of appearances for United.

The left-back was competing with the likes of Dennis Irwin, Phil Neville and Mikael Silvestre so was never likely to get a chance in Manchester.

In 2003, Higginbotham moved to Derby County for a fee of £2 million –  a significant sum at the time.

Following Derby’s relegation a few years later, Higginbotham made the move to Southampton.

Signing at the South Coast club in 2003, the defender made 94 appearances and enjoyed far greater individual success than he had at Old Trafford.

After his time at Southampton, Danny Higginbotham played for a series of clubs starting with the letter S.

Stoke City, Sunderland and Sheffield United were stops in what became a bit of a journeyman career.

Today, Higginbotham is best known for his media presence, having been a familiar voice on the likes of TalkSport and appears as a regular pundit in the media.
