Morgan Schneiderlin

Morgan Schneiderlin was signed by Louis van Gaal from Southampton in 2015, with high hopes following stellar performances for Southampton.

He had been instrumental in helping them first gain promotion to the Premier League and then secure their top-flight status.

Having joined Southampton from Strasbourg, Schneiderlin quickly established himself as a hardworking, physical midfielder with the technical ability to adapt to top-level football.

The signing made him an exciting prospect for Manchester United.

However, Schneiderlin’s time at United was short-lived and fell rather flat.

When Jose Mourinho took charge in the summer of 2016, he was gradually phased out of the squad and eventually sold to Everton in January 2017.

It seemed that the transition from Saint Mary’s to Old Trafford was too big for the French midfielder.

He struggled to stamp his authority on the team and usually spent a lot of time on the substitutes bench.

Despite not making the grade at United, Schneiderlin did have a decent career overall.

However, Schneiderlin may still regret how his time at Old Trafford unfolded.

Schneiderlin later admitted in his interviews that he would be “mad for the rest of his life” about how things turned out, confessing that he “wanted to be a legend at Manchester United.”

It’s more likely that he’ll be remembered more for his time at Southampton than at Manchester United.
